Glass Garden Stake: Pincushion Cactus
Pincushion Cactus
Pincushion Cactus Pot Stake
Escobaria vivipara
Canada's Pincushion Cactus grows the southern prairies of Alberta, Saskatchewan and some of Manitoba. The fruits of this cactus are used for foods and traditional medicines by local Indigenous peoples, and it is also a common landscape plant.
In Canada, four species of cactus grow wild. Mostly found in dry barrens, savannah, or beach dune ecosystems, Canada's cacti are an important source of food for wildlife, and pollinators such as bees, bats, and hummingbirds. The stalks of all of Canada's Cacti are edible and many have medicinal properties.
